I might assume that a lot of people are not submitting. There is a fee to apply. If you are accepted it can cost between $500-$750.00 to pay for your space. You supply the booth and accoutrements: cards, labels, paraphernalia promoting your work, and you may travel for several days from a far distance in a rented truck, plus hotel to stay for the weekend and then you have to hope you make sales to cover your expenses and make a profit. It could involve a couple of thousands of dollars just to show up! So many artists I know have studio shows.
